After a short mid-week break that brought some kitchen-prepped hot food and an entertaining local play, it was back to trail-building beginning at the trailhead at US 23. By Friday, several miles were in pristine hiking condition. The week finished out under blue sky, perfect temps and autumn views of the best Pine Mtn has to offer.
A successful week was possible thru the efforts of the Pike Co Friends of the Trail, with James Stapleton & Wooley, Robert Helvey, Paul Hopkins, Sherri and Teddy Tibbs and Gayle Horne helping out. Thanks go to the Pike Co Extension Services' Suzanne Stumbo and Joel Worth for food and transportation. And the ACT and Stephanie for the most entertaining Samuel 2 play.
And most importantly........thanks go to the Sierra Club's 'Building the Pine Mtn Trail' service crew. A wonderful collection of  trail-building skills, unflagging enthusiasm, and a determination to 'give back'.  The southern charm of Merrell and Ann was .....well, just charming. Larry and Cindy, down from Indiana showed us how to preserver, and Rick and Fred pushed us to go a little further, Gretchen kept it organized and made it all work.....and made it look easy. And of course, Roger Frost, a true professional, delivered yet another successful Sierra Club trip to aid the Pine Mountain Trail. Friends to all they met, and true friends of the Pine Mountain Trail.
